I am the lead instructor for the Health Coach Certificate program at Emory. The Health Coach Certificate Program at Emory University is a robust and challenging program, where you will learn the theory, skills and practical knowledge integral to professional health coaching.
At Emory health coaching the three tenants "discover" "vision" and "create" represent the spirit of coaching for our coaches and our profession. Emory health coaching and Emory health coaches employ a discoverers mind view, seeking new knowledge and ways to continue to improve health coaching and discover new ways to help people create the changes they want to have healthier, happier lives. We use vision to see what is possible for health coaching in a shifting health care environment and to help clients describe and realize their health goals. Through our health coaching we help create change for our clients, ourselves and our profession. Students learn how to employ active listening, motivational interviewing and collaborative goal setting and action planning. Emory students develop a strong core coaching skill-set through study and practice. Course material also includes experts presentations on health topics, group coaching and creating a successful coaching business. Whether you want to to build your own coaching business, incorporate health coaching into your existing profession or learn skills to improve your own health, Emory University's Health Coach Certificate program will help you meet your professional and health goals.
Emory's Health Coach Certificate training program is a 12 week course with 65 contact hours with campus meetings as well as online classes, lectures and coaching practice. To register please go to http://ece.emory.edu/health_coach/

Course description: "A Health Coach is a wellness authority and supportive mentor who motivates individuals to cultivate positive health choices. The Certificate in Health Coachingis designed for healthcare and wellness professionals who desire to educate and support clients to achieve health goals through lifestyle and behavior modification. This program will help individuals develop effective, efficient, and integrative interpersonal coaching skills while maintaining a supportive environment for behavior change. The Certificate in Health Coaching prepares individuals to work with diverse groups of people and have the tools necessary to meet client needs by combining a strong coaching emphasis along with competencies in nutrition, mindfulness, and physical health.
The Jesuit value of cura personalis (care for the whole person) is both integral to the core values of Georgetown University and to the goals of a health coach working to promote wellness by addressing the mind, body, and spirit. As such, this certificate provides formalized health coaching education with a focus on holistic care.
As a key component of the curriculum, participants will develop a Health Coaching Approach for serving client needs. Upon completion, students will have the tools to effectively plan, market, and implement their individualized Health Coaching Approach. Through the Health Coaching Modules I, II & III course, students will further refine this plan to develop specific strategies relevant to common health conditions. Practical application will include engagement in community meetings, a supervised practicum, and group coaching sessions. In addition, courses will include lessons on facilitating individual coaching sessions and creating a successful coaching practice."
